With league leaders Pyramids, second-placed Zamalek and third-placed Al Ahly already guaranteed places in either the CAF Champions League or the CAF Confederation Cup, the remaining continental slot has become a matter of debate.
Following ZED’s defeat against Pyramids in the Egypt Cup final on Sunday, Ceramica Cleopatra celebrated securing the CAF Confederation Cup spot on their social media pages. However, the past 24 hours have brought fresh debate, with ZED now arguing that they are the legitimate candidates for the spot as Egypt Cup runners-up according to the EFA’s regulations.
Both clubs are now awaiting the EFA’s decision, with each hoping to make their debut in African competition.
