Premier League: National Bank stun Pyramids

Pyramids suffered a shock 4-2 defeat to National Bank, leaving their hopes of a maiden Egyptian Premier League title hanging by a thread.

The result keeps Pyramids second in the table, two points behind leaders Al Ahly, who beat Al Masry 4-2 yesterday. With just three rounds remaining, the title race is heating up – especially with the Appeals Committee at the Egyptian FA yet to rule on whether Al Ahly will be docked three points for failing to show up for their league match against Zamalek in February.

National Bank made a superb start, with Mohamed Ibrahim volleying in Issahaku Yakubu’s cross in the fourth minute. Osama Faisal doubled the lead in the 21st minute to pile early pressure on the title contenders.

Pyramids responded just after the break when Ibrahim Adel curled in a brilliant goal to reduce the deficit. They dominated the following minutes and substitute Marwan Hamdi equalized in the 74th minute with a powerful header.

But with Pyramids pushing forward for the winner, National Bank struck again eight minutes from time. Ahmed Madbouli found the net with a fierce long-range strike, before Yaw Annor sealed the famous win four minutes later with another net finish.
