Egypt’s hopes of winning their eighth Africa Cup of Nations title came to an end as they suffered a 1–0 defeat against Senegal in the semi-finals.
Sadio Mane scored the winning goal twelve minutes from time with a low shot from the edge of the box.
Senegal dominated the match as Egypt dropped deep and surrendered possession. The high-risk approach worked for the Pharaohs against Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals, but this time it was different, as Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush failed to come to the rescue.
