2025 AFCON: Egypt beat Benin to Book Last Eight Spot

Egypt reached the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after a 3-1 extra-time win against Benin.

After a goalless first half, Egypt had to wait until the 69th minute to break the deadlock through Marwan Attia. But substitute Jodel Dossou’s late equaliser took the tie into extra time. Yasser Ibrahim restored Egypt’s lead in the first period of extra time with a fine header. Benin threw men forward in search of another lifeline, but Mohamed Salah sealed victory just before the final whistle with a clinical finish after a counter-attack.

The Pharaohs will now face the winner of Tuesday’s Round of 16 clash between Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
